Step 1: Register on Passport Seva

Go to the official Passport Seva website.

Create an account if you don’t already have one.

Log in with your credentials.
Step 2: Fill the Application

Choose “Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport”.

Select Tatkal as the application type.

Fill in all your details carefully.

Submit the form and pay the Tatkal fee (higher than normal).
Step 3: Book an Appointment

Choose the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).

Pick the earliest available Tatkal slot (these fill up fast).

Download and print the Application Receipt (ARN).
Step 4: Gather Required Documents
For Tatkal, the main difference is you need proof of urgency and verification.
Usually required:

Proof of identity (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, etc.)

Proof of address (Aadhaar, Electricity bill, Rental agreement, etc.)

Date of birth proof (Birth Certificate, 10th marksheet, etc.)

Annexure F (Verification Certificate signed by a government officer) OR 3 out of 16 listed documents like Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, Driving Licence, etc.
(Most first-time applicants prefer Annexure F.)
Step 5: Visit the PSK/POPSK

Carry all original documents + photocopies.

Biometrics (fingerprints + photo) will be taken.

Passport Officer will verify everything.
Step 6: Police Verification

In Tatkal, the passport is issued first, then police verification happens later (post-issuance).
Time Taken

If documents are correct, Tatkal passport is usually issued within 1–3 working days after your appointment.
